Foundation Repair Methods
Having trouble with basement water
is probably more common than you think. Its a substantial
and possibly expensive problem that affects thousands
of homes throughout the country.

want dependable, warrantied
work on what is probably your most important investment. When you raise
a house even 1/2 in., the effects can ripple through the building’s
framing, plaster walls, rigid piping and chimneys. In addition, as a house
beam is raised, any rigid plumbing, gas, electrical or heating lines in
the basement connected to the beam, the floors or walls above could rupture.
For this reason and others, only knowledgeable specialty contractors such
as NationDry should raise a beam or wall more
than about 1 in. or undertake extensive floor leveling. Trust NationDry
to protect your most valuable investment.

The repair method you need depends
on the source of the water, the two main sources of
water problems are:
Precipitation
Perhaps the most common cause of water problems is
the failure to manage rain water runoff. Rainwater
from the roof goes through the soil near the foundation
wall and collects at the bottom of the original foundation
excavation. The weight of the water and the hydrostatic
pressure alone can break a wall but the potential
for wall damage increases when the water freezes and
exerts more force on the wall.
Groundwater
Groundwater is responsible more for basement flooding
problems than breaking basement walls. Problems may
be caused by a high water table or underground spring.
Solutions Offered by NationDry
Remove and Replace Walls
One solution to a buckled block
wall is to replace it. NationDry
can do this without excavating. First, we use post jacks
and beams to take the load off the damaged wall. Then,
we remove the damaged section down to the footing. Several
days after rebuilding the wall the jacks are removed.
NationDry can also keep the
original wall by first excavating the area outside.
Then, using jacks and beams we nudge the wall back into
position. Then, any bad mortar joints are repaired.
Pour Footings
If the concrete footings in your home have gone bad
or the support beams above them its NationDry
to the rescue. We can raise and support the floor while
we replace the beams and pour new footings.
Wall Pins
With this method NationDry
uses wall pins which consist of two steel plates, one
located on the inside of the wall and the other buried
in the ground outside, and a threaded rod connecting
the plates. We drill holes in the walls to connect the
inside plate to the outside plate. The two plates are
then drawn together drawing the wall flat.
I-Beams
We can install steel I-Beams
which can support the wall and keep it from buckling
inwards.
Carbon Fiber Strips
When using this system NationDry
replaces I-beams with carbon-fiber/Kevlar belts. We
create recesses across the cracks. The belts are then
coated with epoxy and set in place. Finally the epoxy
is trimmed flush with the wall.
Piering
Many foundations rest on soils relatively near to the
surface; these soils may breakdown over the years or
shift for one reason or another. In addition, basement
footings can settle due to a variety of reasons. When
this happens the basement walls and floors can shift
and crack. Piering or underpinning involves installing
steel supports which reach from under your foundation
through the layers of unstable soil strata down to a
layer of stable load bearing strata. Hydraulic drivers
placed around 3 to 6 ft. apart push steel piers down
to the bedrock where they reach a stable surface for
your basement and home. Support brackets restore the
footing to its original level and keep it there. When
correctly designed and installed foundation piering
provides the basis for lifting of the underpinned structure
to its original or desired position and also provides
vertical support that can eliminate settling of the
underpinned structure in the future.
